Grace Helbig is an American comedian, actress and internet personality. She began her career as a YouTuber by creating a daily vlog of her house sitting experience. Beginning in 2008, she created Grace In A Box on her personal YouTube channel. This amassed over 2.4 million subscribers and more than 211 million views. An impressive career as a comedian, actress and writer has followed with many impressive credits.
Grace is making her Fringe debut with Let Me Get This Off My Chest. This is a great title for a show which chronicles Grace’s lived experience after, at the age of thirty eight, being diagnosed with breast cancer.
This is a surprisingly upbeat, funny show. Grace brings her infectious energetic personality to the stage as she bounds on to a burst of Shania Twain.
This is, as Grace tells us; a white woman on a healing journey. There are no aspects of this journey that are off the table. From the shock diagnosis, the test, the results, to the mammogram, the long quite harrowing treatment and thankfully, the recovery.
There is a particularly harrowing but very funny story recounting the sheer triumph of producing a stool sample! To a self confessed people pleaser, this was a small triumph!
It is hard to connect the dots between the vibrant, energetic, almost manic at times and very funny Grace that we see before us to the extremely ill person that she was. Grace has such stage presence and is captivating throughout. This is a very funny show.
