Lulu Popplewell : Love Love 4**** - One4Review

Lulu Popplewell : Love Love 4****

| On 16, Aug 2025

Lulu enters the stage clutching a very cute little dog which she places in the care of a front row audience member. We are told that this is a therapy dog that has helped her cope with some recent struggles in her life. There is an upbeat start to the show with a song about the ups and downs of relationships which Lulu performs accompanying herself on a keyboard. The dog is a clue to the mental health topics that will be covered in the show.

Right out of the blocks we hear with unabashed candour about some bad choice relationships she has had and of the disastrous dates. We will hear about the men she has dated but reveals that she has also dated women but is currently single and lives alone. The show is never going to be a light hearted romantic foray into Lulu’s past liaisons which the title of the show might suggest.

Lulu appears both fragile and strong in personality. She is bold and with unashamed honesty she tells us of some less than fulfilling past relationships and of an over whelming obsession, which is still with her today.

This is a little bit like a therapy show. It is good to talk and Lulu is a talented funny story teller. She makes jokes and finds humour in the grimmest of situations.

There is some audience interaction which Lulu doesn’t always appear totally comfortable with. The unpredictable nature of a live audience and their reaction to some probing questions can be unnerving.

We hear about anxiety, depression, bi polar and the voices in her head from which she can’t quite escape. The show finishes, as it started, with a song. The lyrics are comical and witty and demonstrate another talent from a skilled performer and storyteller.
