Mitch Benn:-10 Songs to Save the World 4.5**** - One4Review
one4review | On 16, Aug 2019
I must have first seen Mitch Benn fully 25 years ago doing his thing of writing clever, funny songs and linking these with his equally funny thoughts and musing, he seems to have the ability to sweep one along with his oratory and always plays to packed out houses.
Benn of course used to be a regular component on Radio 4’s the Now Show, no longer unfortunately, but the style and class he brought is still there, alive and kicking in his latest Edinburgh offering.
Mitch has always been a delightfully fertile writer, both of well thought out bitingly funny, songs and sometimes edgy equally funny material. He had the packed out audience in stitches throughout his all too short hour.
And of course he is adept with his live looping pedal, literally constructing the backing track with this gizmo, the guitar and his voice, that alone is well worth seeing.
Mitch Benn does have 10 songs that, even he admits, may not change the world, if only they could, but it will certainly make the universe a better place for at least an hour while this masterclass of satirical comedy, about real issues and his possible solutions to some, is delivered.
