Way back in in 2013 I was invited to attend the final of Scottish Comedian of the Year and first heard the name Larry Dean, who even in those distant times had stardom written all over him. He won the award and has never looked back.
Since then, he has gone from strength to strength and the fan base has grown equally too. And it is not hard to understand why. Dean is just an excellent comedian. Simply a fact.
There are no pretentions about the man, he greets his audience, happy to mingle, then Bam! We are off and running with a gag packet hour, strewn with stories, anecdotal situations, boyfriends, past and present, trips to the USA and the main topic time spent with his gran, or nanny as she was known, and living with her dementia and time-hopping. This is both funny, he is a comedian after all, touching and sad. They obviously had a really strong bond.
Larry, as fans will know, is a mimic of various accents, which he always uses to great effect, and were to the fore. His show was as always, delightfully written, charismatically delivered, and wickedly funny, by a top , top funny man.
Larry Dean made this look effortlessly easy, but I just know he has worked hard to appear so.
And for the rating. Obviously 5 Stars… because I can’t award 6
