The Truman Capote Talk Show 4.5**** - One4Review
one4review | On 06, Aug 2025
Step into the intimate surroundings of the Pleasance Attic and you’re transported straight into the scandal-filled world of Truman Capote — as brought to life by the razor-sharp and immensely talented Bob Kingdom.
This one-man show is less talk show and more confessional cabaret, dripping with gossip, wit, and vulnerability. Kingdom doesn’t just play Capote — he becomes him, with plenty of drawl, drama and delicious bitchiness. With a drink never far from hand, he tells of Capote’s life from troubled Southern beginnings to New York high society stardom and eventual self-destruction.
We follow Truman’s life story from his parents’ messy divorce, his nomadic childhood, and a period with the Baptist branch of his family which included the eccentric cousin Snook — who dressed him in silks and sparked his flair for fashion and the fabulous. An early taste for drink only adds fuel to the fire.
As Capote glides through celebrity circles, name-dropping with glee, we see how his gift for storytelling and truth-telling turned poison. He charmed the rich into confessing their secrets, only to write them down in black and white — and they never forgave him.
Kingdom’s performance is captivating, sad, and sharp as a stiletto. A cautionary tale wrapped in glitter and gossip, The Truman Capote Talk Show is as intoxicating as the man himself.
