Michael Akadiri – No Scrubs 4****

| On 13, Aug 2022

Michael Akadiri is a junior doctor in the NHS by career, a decision that was made for him by his mother, and the ‘other’ Michael, is a stand-up with a bright future I’m certain.
Opening with a few medical based jokes and crowd work he quickly settles into his hour reaping a steady flow of laughs throughout his set.
The material majors on experiences as a junior doctor, rotating through numerous medical departments prior to settling on a speciality, or though his wife, also a junior doctor has vetoed his first choice he claims.
PC gets a mention, he claims to hold a title he really doesn’t qualify for, talks of donuts, getting change from a busker, loving to prank people and trampolines, boy does he love trampolines.
The more serious message that comes from the show is towards the end as he relates a story of how he ended up in court in relation to his work, how people are often judged differently by their clothes alone. In scrubs, he is a respected medical professional, however in leisure clothes can be perceived as a treat.
For an hour of quality material peppered with laughs he seems to have many bases covered. If laughter is the best medicine, he’s got it covered, if not well he is a doctor.
