I first saw Elf Lyons as a precocious teenager doing straight stand-up and marked her down for greater things so was pleased to see last year’s show Swan nominated for the prestigious Comedy Award. It would be interesting to see how she followed it up.
Ms Lyons is almost too versatile I have discovered over the years she can act, is an accomplished clown, she has a fertile inventive comedy, if occasionally surreal, mind and now it appears that she has a very good singing voice too.
She opens with the tried and tested public speaking maxim of tell them what you are going to say, say it, then tell them what they heard, giving ample opportunities for call backs
During ChiffChaff we are treated to a festival of all the strings to her bow as she enlightens everyone on Economics, well her dad is an acclaimed economics expert after all, using the mediums of music, she parodies such songs as If I were a Rich Man, Downtown, and Let’s Get Physical to great effect, pregnant lions, inflatable economists on stage and miming economic problems, all interspersed with her dad’s recorded commentary.
Elf puts her heart and soul into her performances and it is pleasing to see that her efforts are worth it given the rapturous applause she received at the end of this performance.
