Alison Spittal – Wet 4.5**** - One4Review

The Attic space at the Pleasance can be an uncomfortable, warm and clammy environment to watch comedy in but has a history of being a home for some performers who have gone on to great things. Who would bet against Alison Spittal becoming one of the alumni? Not me.
From the opening moment to the end which arrived all too soon, Alison had the sold-out crowd on her side, her opening lines of loving a complement and one she received for doing a set without mentioning her vagina, well she made up for it with this show, and how, but was able to mine comedy gold from some of her experiences which had everyone in stitches.
But there was more, she was evicted from a tribute band she formed, religion, she is a lapsed catholic, and a hilarious segment about her feelings about aqua aerobics the hierarchy that exists within each group, also she offers up another gem about hand jobs. I will never think about a domestic fowl in the same light again.
Alison is a genuinely funny performer. The material is well written and delivered without any histrionics, and of course her delightful Irish twang made it even better.
She is deservedly doing very well this year so tickets may be scarce. Catch her soon if you can.
