Victim 5***** - One4Review

Victim 5*****

Louise Beresford plays both characters in this absorbing play written by Martin Murphy – Tracey, a prison warden with issues in her private life and an obsession with a notorious inmate, and Siobhan, a scheming and manipulative prisoner who shares a cell with the same inmate and is equally intrigued. This may sound like there is an hour of misery in store for the audience but far from it. The play is full of humour and between Tracey’s tales of her less than perfect home life and Siobhan’s close encounters with men, Louise makes both her characters likeable and sympathetic and at times downright hilarious. The denouement is shocking but if given more time the tension could have been made even more heart stopping if Siobhan and Tracey’s poisonous relationship has been allowed to develop further. Asking for a play to last longer is hardly a criticism though and I thoroughly recommend this play.
