There is no doubt that the show that is the most talked about in the Fringe this year is La Fura dels Baus and XXX. This Spanish Company have courted controversial publicity wherever they have played with this interpretation of the Marquis de Sade’s Phiolophy in the Boudoire. The plot is centred on the perversion of an innocent teenager, Eugenie by her three tutors, the retired porn star Lula, Lula’s brother Giovani and the evil Dolmance. The entire production is in Spanish, with off stage subtitles and lasts for two hours. There is copious on stage nudity, simulated, at least I assume it is simulated sex, hard-core porn on the screens and live audience participation in the stripping stakes. There may be a real attempt to interpret the works of Sade, and the staging together with the multi-media technology is impressive, but it is the shock value I feel that is attracting the audience. How did I feel about the show? It was an experience, but not one I particularly would want to go through again. ***
