Phil Nichol: The Naked Racist - One4Review
He must be one of the hardest working artistes on the Fringe this year, Phil is starring in , even more accurately virtually carrying Talk Radio at the Udderbelly, starring in True West at the Assembly and playing to packed houses in The Stand Comedy Club with his stand -up show The Naked Racist. Having witnessed him doing stand -up over the years, I was used to knowing the energy he puts into each performance, the only thing that worries me is how he can keep going over the month that is Edinburgh. Phil greets us with his excellent guitar playing on entering the venue before bursting into his high energy routine that centres on why he spent a solo four days in Amsterdam, but as a precursor he tell as a story of a tribe of people in Russia who on refusing to fight, stripped totally naked in protest, were exiled to Siberia before relocating to Canada. Being Canadian and a pacifist himself Phil could identify with the message. There follows a hilarious account of his holiday, a song or two, culminating in a story which leads to him totally getting totally in sync with these naked anti war protesters. At least nobody can accuse him off not giving his all for his beliefs.
