The Good Thief - One4Review

This one man play written by the award winning actor Conor McPherson, is performed and co-directed by Roy Donoghue. Donoghue relates the story of an enforcer for Joe Murray, a Northern Irish shady character, who has acquired Greta from the hard man. Given what should be a simple job of frightening Mitchell into paying back rent, things go badly astray and end up in shooting, death and alleged kidnapping of Mitchell’s wife and daughter. Evading initial capture the trio flee north and hide out with the assistance of a acquaintance, until it all goes wrong. This interesting story is well written and Donoghue excels in the characterisation of everybody involved in the story. The simple set is used imaginatively to create illusions of every scene that is required. I found this an excellent piece of early evening entertainment, and it really deserves bigger audiences. ****
