Jay Weston managed to come from Australia to Edinburgh for a short run during the Fringe Festival but also managed to catch a bad cold and throat infection. I was unaware of the extent of his illness but was aware of his coughing and occasional difficulty breathing during some of his performance, although I was at the time slightly disappointed with some of the arrangements of the numbers from musicals I love, I thought the overall performance fairly creditable. It was not until I got home and was able to listen to his CD I realised just how much he was struggling, it was very much a case of the show must go on and it did for at least two performances then he cancelled some shows. I don’t know if he was able to continue on any other nights, I do know that those who had booked to see him and did not, missed out on a great performer and a potentially superb show.
