Nina Conti – Complete and utter Conti - One4Review

Nina Conti first came to my attention a few years ago when together with her partner in crime monkey, she stormed the BBC New Comedy Awards back in 2002, was it really that long ago? Ventriloquists are few and far between on the comedy circuit and for what is supposedly an uncool art form, Nina is packing out her venue night after night. Always smiling, Ms Conti majors on her association with Monkey and as always the disrespectful primate keeps his stunningly attractive companion on her toes with his comments. Insisting that he is the main attraction and she is holding him back, he is allowed to turn the hour into the Monkey Show. Nina has also been seen acting on television recently and it is obvious she has inherited some of her father’s ability in this field as her voices and characterisation work during brief forays away from the cheeky chimp are very well executed. She also dabbles with other puppets including another monkey occasionally seen on TV. However, it’s the paring of Monkey and Nina that work best, even sitting front row centre I couldn’t spot a lip movement, even when Monkey sings opera, and the finale itself was worth the admission money alone. ****
