Correspondence - One4Review

Claire McDonald’s new play belongs to the genre of experimental theatre. It is a series of riddles. A programme is issued before the play begins which does help to set out the scenario. The music as the audience take their seats evokes a thought that the action might take place in France. The play opens with the appearance of a man and woman late at night. Where and when is not obvious. It is not clear what their relationship is. Are they acquaintances, lovers or past lovers? Conversation between them and monologues occur. Journeys about to be taken, imagined or have happened figure strongly. This only adds to the mystery. It is a play of thoughts and emotions acted impeccably by Jeremy Killick and Stefanie Mueller. Understanding is elusive and this quality may or may not appeal. ***
