Felix Dexter - Not - One4Review

Felix Dexter – Not Just Another White Guy Lost In The Shuffle
Fast, animated and expressive are the features of Felix Dexter’s style of comedy. His show is based around a whole series of characterisations which draw upon his experience at the RSC and his success as a comedy actor. Underpinning his show is the subject of race. Some of his characterisations work better than others in terms of the attitudes the characters are expressing. There is a tendency to fall back on stereotypes. What I did like were the links between the characterisations and some of the throwaway lines. His take and our take on Barak Obama were particularly sharp. His show is very much scripted and he almost lost it at one point when he received a humorous response from the audience to a rhetorical question. He quickly recovered and ran with it beautifully as a running joke for the rest of the show. There is no doubt Felix Dexter’s capacity to be funny, intelligent and to entertain but maybe the main character should be himself. ***
