Funny Women Fringe Award  - One4Review

There is no doubt in my mind that there are  lot more funny women around on the comedy circuit than there used to be and they are no longer taken any less seriously than their male counterparts. Also there are awards and show cases which specialise in the fairer sex and this show was one of them. The show, like so many others, had a compere and a few acts all in an hour and there were all women, although that might be open to debate as you will hear. Grainne McGuire was in charge for the show. This Irish girl warmed up the crowd with some of her own stuff the introduced Girl and Dean who are doing their own show at the Pleasance. A short stint from them, and the Aussie Fiona O’Loughlin took over with a short routine of her  stuff. If this was part of her show at the Gilded Balloon then it should be well worth checking out. The penultimate act was another duo, Nina Conti and Monkey, and he’s no lady! Ms Conti is an absolute hoot always and her full show is a must to check out at the Pleasance. Top of the bill was the reigning title holder Katherine Ross. I’m afraid she didn’t go down too well with the audience, maybe it was us, maybe she had a bad gig, who knows? Still all in all it was a good enough show and proves the point that there are funny women out there in droves. Keep up the high standard ladies. ***
