The Comedy Zone - One4Review

Apparently Sunday night audiences are a tough bunch, and nowhere was this more obvious than at The Comedy Zone.  The 4 comedians really struggled to produce a show which got the punters fired up, although this task probably wasn’t helped by their own comments on how poorly the show had sold or how badly the material was going down. Ellis James was compere for the evening and an attempt to warm up the crowd managed to at least raise us to room temperature.  First act Nat Luurtsema raised a few chuckles but no real belly laughs.  Her material seemed to require an extra mental leap that was hard to conjure up late on a Sunday night.  Henry Paker fared much better with a routine that included some witty little digs at Edinburgh.  His material was by no means groundbreaking, but his ability to make commonly held observations funny was all that mattered. After the break Ellis James fared well with his swimming pool saga, but headline act Tom Deacon proved hit and miss.  His routine seemed to be all over the place and the laughter came in fits and starts. All in all a bit of a disappointment.  The comedians may benefit from a better night and a better audience, however in return I think it’s only fair to ask for some better material. **
