Scottish Comedian of the Year 2008
Scott Agnew is a young up and coming comedian who I have seen a number of times but never doing an hour before. I know he is an excellent compere, can do 20 minutes with ease so was keen to see what he had to offer. Agnew is an imposing chap, 6ft 5inches tall fifteen stone, not one to argue with, but when he delivers an hour of comedy like he did, then who would ever want too? Certainly the packed audience he had when I saw him. Following on from breaking the ice banter for the first few moments, Agnew launches into 50 minutes based on his life in 1999, a time that was very significant in his life. As a born raconteur Agnew leads us through the turmoil that ‘coming out’ caused him together with getting in with a heavy scene that probably wasn’t the cleverest thing he had ever done in his life, but all retold with his own often self-deprecating style, always funny style. Scott may be the Scottish Comedian of the Year 2008, but he will surely soon be playing on a more international stage in the very near future. Watch out for him rise, but before he does grab a ticket to see him now.   ****
