Sweeney Todd  -  The Deamon Barber of Fleet Street - One4Review

Sweeney Todd
The Deamon Barber of Fleet Street
Artfelt Theatre Company present their adaptation of ‘Sweeney Todd the Deamon Barber of Fleet Street’. Sondheim is notoriously difficult to perform but this company do it very well. Despite the cramped performance area we get the full splendour of the show. The staging of the murders is very clever with an actual tipping chair and murderous cutthroat razor, which sprays blood. The acting and singing of this relatively young cast varies from competent to good. It is difficult to say whether they are enjoying their Fringe forre as most of the characters are so miserable. The cast of Artfelt Theatre Company is drawn from two schools in West London, they have gathered enough talent to enable them to double cast the main characters. It was the Tuesday 18th August cast I saw. My only other comment apart from the tight of space was the lack of interval. For me it was a little too long not to have one. Otherwise this is a very good show. ****
