Shappi Khorsandi: The Moon on a Stick - One4Review

****

4 Stars

Shappi Khorsandi has been building a reputation for herself over the last few years with appearances on Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow and her own BBC Radio 4 series not to mention appearances on the likes of Question Time so it is little surprise to discover that tickets for her 2010 show are a very scarce commodity to obtain.

Ms Khorsandi is of course or Iranian heritage, so once she has chatted with the front row or two during the opening segment, she has a number of stories  to tell based on her heritage and family especially her father.

Then main part of the show was how she wanted it all, hence the title of the piece, a husband, a child and a career, particularily to be a sit com actress, the way she went about obtaining them all, and what happened when she did.

Like all best laid plans, sometimes things just don’t work out, and she is able to exorcise some of the issues, while entertaining the packed house by finding the fun side of issues, often poking fun at herself in the process.

Shappi is an engaging comedian, and one with considerable ability. The persona she portrays of being slightly superficial I sure hides the true her, but it is one that works. She has plenty of funny material and an innate ability to perform.

She still has the desire for another child and who knows that may happen, she is certainly adopting a novel approach to selecting a prospective father, now you just have to go and find out how don’t you?
