I Love You, Your Perfect, Now Change - Why Not? Musical Theatre Company - One4Review

**** 4 Stars

Why Not? Musical Theatre Company are staging this ever popular and enduring musical in Fringe 2011 as their latest foray into the world’s biggest Arts Festival and as usual they have a couple of previews in their native Dunfermline prior to crossing the Forth, the first of which I caught.

Written in 1996, music by Jimmy Roberts and book by Joe Di Pietro  this light hearted funny production charts, in a series of short snappy scenes the dating, marriage, kids, and even death of relationships. No hard and fast storyline, and no continuing characters either, just a talented troupe of actors singing and dancing their way though 90 minutes of total entertainment.

I have seen this musical a number of times with varying cast numbers in each cast. Why Not? have opted for eight, namely Aileen Baxter, Connor Cumming, Rebecca Dudgeon, Sarah Moore, Adam Sawers, Leanne Moira Tait, Ashley Walker and Oliver Watson, to play the multitudinous roles that pop up throughout the production.

Each adds value to the end product, each can sing move well and I must complement the accents. So often these mock American accents can slip, but this was not noticeable and whether it was the groups natural comedic ability, or the direction of Graeme Melvin coupled with the choreography of Theresa Puddefoot, but I have never laughed so much at the show before.

MD Alan Gibson provides the music which as always is right on the money all night.

So if you like this musical you have your chance to catch it during the Fringe, if you are unaware of it up till now, well this is your chance to catch a quality version by an excellent young company.
