Luke Wright Essex Lion 5 Star *****
Now I have to admit that performance poetry is not one of my first choices in selecting a fringe show to see, but I am always willing to make an exception when it comes to seeing Luke Wright doing his show.
The guy is an imposing figure at 6 foot plus but what is more imposing is his charisma not to mention his unrivalled ability to make poetry accessible and interesting for the uninitiated.
For the full hour that his recital runs Wright has the audience mesmerised by the power and humour of his compositions and the spoken links between his opuses.
The title of the show was inspired by the story of a sighing of a lion in Essex last summer and given Wright is from that country he felt it an obvious title for a poem and his offering this year
I sort of lost count of the number of pieces he delivered, I would guess about ten, it was certainly a full hour of excellent entertainment and one that should not be missed by anyone.
