Vikki Stone: Instrumental 5***** - One4Review

Vikki Stone: Instrumental 5*****

| On 06, Aug 2014

I’m not sure its usual for comedy show to induce tears other than those of laughter. This show, which Vikki describes as about ‘trying’, but which could just as easily be about her relationship with her late father, has one incredibly poignant song which does just that. It’s not a sad show by any means, but there are far more emotions packed in than simple laughter.

I suspect that Ms Stone’s opening to this show will remain my favourite of any show for quite some time: no messing around, just straight in, like picking up in the middle of an interrupted conversation. And it’s a conversation which continues to the end of the show, which is accompanied throughout by music created by Vikki on her instruments with assistance from a looping device and a laptop. I was super-impressed that she kept her stories going while also playing the music and pressing buttons.
As a performer, Ms Stone is super, with a lovely voice (speaking and singing) and a good story to tell.
