Mermalade 3*** - One4Review

Mermalade 3***

| On 13, Aug 2016

I have never before been welcomed to a show by an oyster, but they were charming, and kept the queue from getting fretful.

Once the show started these same oysters became very philosophical, before we met the title character, a mermaid called Mermalade. She is unhappy because she’s looking for something, but doesn’t become any happier when she finds the box.

She ends up asking the moon, stars, and sun for a clue about what makes pearls so special, ignoring the answers until Thor sends lightning and turns up in person.

Finally, she works it out, with a spot more philosophy and an exchange of pearls making everyone, eventually, happy.

It was a strange sort of tale, and if there was a moral in it, it got a bit lost in the complicated discussions at the end. It also could have done with more action, less discussion, but it was, nonetheless, a sweet play – worth a look for mermaid fans.
