Angela Barnes: Rose-Tinted 4**** - One4Review

Angela Barnes: Rose-Tinted 4****

| On 13, Aug 2018

Angela Barnes star definitely seems to be on the rise at the moment as she is regularly involved in TV and radio, either appearing or writing for others. She is a plain spoken, working class woman with an opinion and has numerous engaging narratives and observations on many issues affecting us today. Topics such as Brexit, Trump, Novichok, #metoo campaign and football fans are covered with an extremely entertaining fresh slant.

Angela describes herself as a pessimist but she is able to see the funny in most situations. She talks about mental health problems she has had and when faced with a challenge deals with it by imagining what Babs, her key worker, would do in a similar situation to great comedic effect. She has recently lost 3 stones in weight and is finding exercise cathartic, so much so she has even joined a cult, however she did have to go through the embarrassment of finding the right trainers first. She also discusses her inherent fear of singing in public plus her experience of being asked to perform at a polo club dinner, not exactly her usual stomping ground. She highlights the difference in class, particularly how a working-class woman reacts to being given a compliment.

Her show was really well received by the packed crowd at Pleasance Beside as her stories are very relatable and she has fantastic rapport with audience. She has some serious take home messages to make and makes them well.
