Anya Anastasia: The Executioners - 4**** - One4Review
one4review | On 12, Aug 2018
The gorgeous and highly talented Anya Anastasia along with the help of Gareth Chin are back at the Fringe to help us Save the World – well she would if she wasn’t so busy!
With her mobile phone in hand she provides an excellent performance of how we use social media to make us look interesting and caring and how superficial this actually is (doing the ice bucket challenge but not actually realising it was suppose to be to raise money for charity!).
Through her satirical humour and excellent rendition of original songs she covers everything from racism, recycling (the importance of using reusable cups, she has 20 of them in different colours!), politics and the environment. These songs are extremely cleverly written and certainly get you thinking about how much of a difference you can actually make – talking about it on social media is not enough and some actions are actually required.
We are given a martial arts demo with Gareth. (I wasn’t really quite sure how this fitted in but it was entertaining).
What makes this show is Anya’s amazing voice and very cleverly written lyrics, which brings home a very serious message without being too serious about it.
