Kurt Murray and Lulia Benze, aka Dr Bubble and Milkshake create a brand-new theatre show every year. For 2019 they perform an adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen’s The Little Match Girl using puppets, costume changes and of course lots of bubbles.
The story is so sensitively performed that the children are enthralled throughout. Using an adorable puppet as the Little Match Girl, Milkshake takes on a few roles, including the girls Grandma at the end of the story, while Dr Bubble expertly conjures up the atmospheric backdrop including a snowstorm of bubbles, and the girl’s visions when she lights her matches appear within bubbles.

There is lots of humour, with the little one’s loving Milkshakes silly antics and Dr Bubble’s awe-inspiring creations, even the adults were impressed with gasps and cheering throughout. There is the chance for a couple of the audience members to appear on stage and have bubbles attached to them in the form of jewellery and muscles.

I would highly recommend this show for children of all ages as there’s something for everyone, delightful
children’s theatre, some clowning and lots of impressive visuals. The bubble storm at the end is fabulous and of course everyone loves bursting them. There is also a handout to take away giving details of the show, story and other useful information.
After the show there is the chance for a picture opportunity with every child being put inside their own bubble.
