Havana After Dark 5***** - One4Review

Havana After Dark 5*****

| On 20, Aug 2019

An incredible 5-piece band, led by award-winning musician, and Buena Vista Social Club pianist, Rolando Luna set the scene brilliantly with their sounds of Havana. They are accompanied by two singers, Gisela Lepio and Joaquin Garcia who get the evening started with their rendition of Camila Cabelo – My Heart Is In Havana. These guys absolutely fill the room with their amazing vocals.
Lepio acts as host for the evening, providing the story of Havanas 500 year history and culture during short interludes throughout the show.
Taking centre stage are eight dancers. They provide more than just the traditional Salsa, Mambo, Rumba and Cha Cha Cha, bringing a contemporary flavour to their performance that includes Hip Hop, Afro Funk and Classical Ballet.
Amazing choreography, energetic dance routines and costumes changes are used to demonstrate the resilience of Havanas people during the highs and lows of its history. A romantic story is beautifully portrayed by a breathtaking ballet performance from Daniel Rittoles and Barbara Patterson.
Musical arrangements of old and new songs perfectly capture Havanas blend of different cultures with its fusion of Spanish guitar, African drum rhythms and American Jazz.
The musicians, singers and dancers individually are amazing but combined they are absolutely outstanding. You will be on your feet giving it your best Salsa moves by the end of the evening. Highly recommend this very entertaining show.
