Amy Gledhill is part of an established and experienced double act (also performing at this festival), and her experience is evident in the confidence and facility with which she delivers this delightfully entertaining show. There’s decidedly no evidence that Ms Gledhill feels the lack of her double act partner; her warmth and energy on her own is more than enough to fill the space and sweep the audience along from the very start.

And right from the start, Ms Gledhill delivers quality stand-up: a bit, but not too much, introductory stuff to draw us in, and then some excellent stories – and story-telling – about the fixer-upper men she’s dated, punctuated by outbursts of hilarity and mediated by tension expertly created and released. Ms Gledhill has a keen eye for the shape and rhythm of a good narrative, a skill she exploits throughout the show: in meta-commentary about why she’s doing things in a particular order, as well as to elicit some of her biggest laughs.

My seat-neighbours were there based on knowledge or recommendations, though like me they hadn’t seen her previously (or solo) – but going by the laughter and enthusiasm in the room, this risk was repayed by a thoroughly delightful hour.
