For me, Boom is what the Edinburgh Festival is all about – loads of creative energy, extraordinary talent, bravery and originality.

In March 2022, young artists from the Cirk La Putyka ensemble in Prague and the Kyiv Municipal Academy of Circus and Variety Arts first met each other after the outbreak of war in Ukraine.

The show starts with our young performers wearing transparent oversized heads, swiping hands right to left in their social networking bubbles. Fabulous Aerial tricks demonstrate the incessant nature of rolling hashtags and constant selfies.Their bubble soon bursts however as the Ukrainian artists arrive on stage huddled in large overcoats. They demonstrate through dance and storytelling that despite their language differences they have much in common such as traditions of welcoming guests with bread and salt, their culture and histories and of course their love of circus. It’s not all doom and gloom by the way there is a very enjoyable clown routine to lighten things up. In the last 10 minutes of this performance, this young cast are given free reign to demonstrate what freedom means to them. BOOM these artists take to the stage and we are treated to the most amazing demonstration of contemporary dance, hip-hop, jaw dropping Aerial and gymnastics.

I could not believe the maturity, bravery and skills of this young cast. This show is not to be missed and 12% of the ticket fee is being donated to the Disaster Emergency Committee so what are you waiting for? – Buy a ticket!
