Luca Cupani – Happy Orphan 3 ½ *** - One4Review

I would imagine that It is definitely a challenge to do one’s first Edinburgh hour. It must be even more so when one is doing it in not their first language, and in Luca’s case English is not even his second, see the show to find out which others are in his repertoire.
The man has a very engaging personality, has a likeability factor and it is perfectly safe to sit in the front row, no crowd work from this guy.
What we do get is an hour of very well written material with a whole host of laughs, as he leads us on the journey of his life, growing up with a hard matriarch of a mother, dominating his early years and even into his not so early ones.
This is not a poor me show however, he is just telling it how it was and finding the funny side along the way, be it about his family, pornography, organised crime hierarchy or the Italian burial bureaucracy.
This was an early show in his run and I feel Mr Cupani will grow in confidence and make what is a very pleasing show into a solid 55minutes.
