Rosco McClelland – Goblin Mode 4.5****

| On 24, Aug 2022

Deep in the bowels of the Edinburgh old town, in a glorified cave, lurks a goblin, dictionary definitions vary slightly but ‘a grotesque sprite or elf that is mischievous or malicious toward people’ is a common theme. Does this apply to Rosco? Not really, other than being mischievous, this charismatic Scot bears little resemblance to the mythical creature.
What we do have is a slightly chaotic, yet wildly funny 50 minutes of him at his inventive best, relaying mostly personal material that has his audience in stitches from his entrance right to the end.
The stories are many, the victim if there is one is himself, Rosco just tells it as he sees it and who can say he is wrong.
His undiagnosed ADHD? He is happy with it, doesn’t want medication, a house move, his dog, conspiracy theorists, lockdown inevitably, internet and virtuality head sets being invaded by ‘horntrapeneurs’, his word, and satay sauce are all looked at through his eyes during the show.
McClelland has the charisma and comedic abilities to hold the crowd throughout, and deserves to play a bigger, better room where he could maybe have staged his planned show, but for now check him out, him in this much maligned space is well worth a punt.
