Eryn Tett Finds Her Audience 3***

| On 24, Aug 2022

I make a point of not really reading too much into the blurb that is put out about a show, I rather prefer to go in cold and discover what it is all about. Often afterwards I do read it, occasionally it explains a lot.
Eryn Tett’s is a case where maybe reading would have helped me see what she was striving for.
With a mixture of hi-tech and old school flipcharts Eryn, with assistance from VT and explaining some in person, illustrates that this is research to find her perfect audience. She explains that she is a stand-up, often using one liners, venturing into absurdism at times and has gathered data from other shows to which our research results will be added. Okay, somewhat bewildered, the busy house settled in and she is off, and the performance starts to flow. But. Then she stops, carrying out research with us on our rating so far, maybe integral to her aims, but does in my opinion ruin the flow. And this just doesn’t happen once either!
There can be no doubt that the show is vastly different than most on offer this Fringe and may well sit better with a younger crowd than the one I was part of. But then the Fringe is all about taking a punt at times. Maybe I should have used the form guide more.
