Andrew Frank: Ecstatic Blasphemy 3*** - One4Review

Andrew Frank: Ecstatic Blasphemy 3***

| On 11, Aug 2023

Andrew Frank is a great performer: confident in their own ability without being arrogant, secure in thie role as a performer, and does indeed commit to and believe in their show. They’re likeable and warm, and did an excellent job of making an audience of three spread across a room for 80 feel like we were enough, absolving us of any awkwardness.

The show is about their experience of evangelical Christianity, and the long term impact it – and the resultant trauma – has had on their life. It’s a fascinating and entertaining show, and Frank has lots of interesting things to say. But it would benefit from an editor. This would hopefully allow some of their good points to be made more succinctly and pithily, imbue them with more impact as well as maintaining the energy, which dropped in a few places.

There’s good material in this show, clever and witty and thoughtful, it’s just a bit buried under the extent of it all. Frank is a great performer, and I look forward to seeing what they do next.
