Jay Lafferty – Bahookie 5*****

| On 04, Aug 2023

Jay Lafferty has always been an outstanding comedian and a much sought after name on the comedy circuit as well as making frequent appearances on TV and radio, and of course now a regular performer of her solo shows at the Edinburgh Fringe.
As a much renowned compere Jay’s initial crowd work, warming up the audience was excellent, drawing the slightly reserved crowd out of themselves and letting one and all relax and enjoy her hour.
Having reached a certain age Jay reflected on the changes that had taken place, her body image social media targeted adverts, so she decided it must change. She got a life coach to help her achieve her aims. And she took up pole dancing fitness too.
The crowd are treated to a delightfully written and performed hour of the progress made to attain her desires and also are made privy to how she lost her innocence, a take on how to deal with Stop Oil protests, especially on the M8 motorway, teenage Goth phase, and being betrayed by Alexa when trying to divert her child away from his favourite TV programme amongst others.
And then of course there is the elephant on the stage. The Pole. As a fitting finale Jay show cases her recently acquired skills, of course paying attention to venue required H&S legislation.
Jay Lafferty is always a delight to see perform, and this was no exception. Beat a path to the ticket office while you have a chance.
