Arthur Smith and Phil Nice in Oof! 4.5**** - One4Review

On entering the venue and being seated the audience find Fringe comedy legend Arthur Smith is sitting on a bench reading his newspaper, when a similarly aged Phil Nice shuffles on stage and sits beside him. Initially there is no recognition, but that is soon to change. Realisation, chats about the modern world, reminiscences of the old days as their history of performing together 40 years ago as Fiasco Job Job double-act, their successes and the subsequent demise of the double act are discussed argued about and resolved,
I have to say I had no preconceived idea as to what to expect, I just know I like virtually everything that Arthur Smith has done each time I have seen him. And this is certainly something that can be added to the long list.
Obviously, we have two fine comedy actors, a funny, wonderfully written and engaging script, an enthusiastic packed house and it is an hour of top-class entertainment. The humour is not groundbreaking, but it is hilarious at times poignant at others but this a performance that highlights so much that is good in theatre, the pair have comedy timing to die for.
This is an ideal start for a Fringe day and it will probably be the last chance to see Smith and Nice perform together. Don’t miss out.
