This was the second a-cappella group of my fringe plans. I am always impressed by the talent and skill the performers have and demonstrate to such a high standard.
The show is performed by fourteen very professional, talented and passionate university students from Durham. Each managing to hit notes we all wish we can. They deliver an impassioned medley of songs carefully selected from 1950s to the present day.
The stage set up is basic however the performers move in a cleverly choreographed way that this is irrelevant to the show. I felt the basic background keeps the audience solely focused on the performance.
Each member of the group perform a piece which is highly supported by the others. You can see and hear the chemistry this group have with each other, amplifying the performances. They beautifully deliver each song while introducing the audience to the group members. Two members have the responsibility to provide the bass and percussion for the show by using their beat boxing skills which is impressive.
The only thing that was a let down for me was I was not able to hear a few of the soloists. I felt the acoustics were not the best however the room was small. It could have simply been where I was sitting however I was not alone in this thought, over hearing others after the show.
Despite this, I enjoyed this performance a lot and the reaction from the audience supported the feeling I had. This a-cappella group have recently competed in international championships and they are indeed worth going to see. I sense we will see more from this group of talented performers in the coming years.
