Comedy Cellar - The Good, the Bad and the Irish 5***** - One4Review

After seeing some acts during the Fringe at Canons Gait Bar, Comedy Cellar, I was keen to see how this venue would Stand Up after all the crowds had gone, and I was pleasantly surprised and very impressed by the standard of comedy on offer.
Michael Porter, host for the evening kicked things off by chatting to most of the audience at some point and warming them up for the other acts appearing. He’s great at picking the scab and getting into the nitty gritty with hilarious effect. We discover that we have an incredibly diverse audience to the point that I’m the only Scot in this packed room!
Next up is Ryan Wingfield, a very talented Alaskan now residing in Scotland. He’s been here for 6 years and he has a superb observational style, and boy can he nail an accent. His section on the grammar differences between UK and USA was not only very cleverly written but it was delivered in such a way that the audience were in stitches. His timing was absolutely on point.
A wee 10 minute drinks break gives us the chance to quench our thirst ready for the second half. Michael takes to to the stage again and his barrage of questions continues with the crowd, which works very well indeed.
Ian Christopher our next act brings a natural Irish charm to his set, his storytelling has enough ramble with a side helping of punchlines that you don’t see coming. The laughs keep coming and he has a wonderful rapport with the crowd. His energy is infectious and he manages to cover a vast swath of content. He’s a very skilled comedian.
All in all a great night in The Comedy Cellar. Michael Porter has created a superb space for comedians to ply their wares, and his hard work hasn’t gone unnoticed. The comedy is on here 7 days a week, so give this club a visit and some support, it goes to show that there’s plenty comedy in the city outside the 3 weeks of The Fringe.
