The Scottish Comedian of the Year 2013 and Amused Moose Award winner 2016 Glasgow’s own Larry Dean returns to the Fringe with what to my opinion is his best show yet.
Dean has always had oodles of charisma, stage presence and comedy timing to die for. This show gives him to showcase all this and his outrageously hilarious writing ability. He is the complete package.
From his opening line, he had to wait for the laughter to die down slightly, to his closing gag he had the sold out room in stitches. The material choice, his descriptions of people and moods, the total naturalness of his laid back delivery were all integral parts to the whole experience of the hour.
Dubai, Australian boyfriend, his pal on day release from jail, Independence Referendum, his family, an uncanny impersonations at ‘London comics’ , pedometers, and Aberdeen voting tory are just a few of the highlights. There were probably more I was laughing so hard it was difficult to keep count.
It is beyond any doubt that Dean will soon be playing way bigger venues than this intimate cellar, albeit a great space and maybe some of the magic may be diluted. But it is also certain that he will be regarded as a Scottish great along with the likes of Billy Connolly and Kevin Bridges.
Beg, steal or borrow a ticket… assuming there are any available now.
