Josh Glenc an Australian performer is performing his debut hour in the Fringe playing his alter-ego Dicky Rosenthal a onetime ‘dweeb’ who thanks to the new product Manfül is a ripped strong all powerful guy. Or is he?
Be-decked in a muscle suit Dicky leads what in essence is a product launch combined with a motivational speech, blended with his own insecurities and a penchant for Fiddler on the Roof and a Grease number as well.
His audience interactions are numerous, his show contains many ventures through the crowd, with humiliating effects on himself and although these are good devises maybe he pushed them a little too far. I did fear for his safety at one point when he was too in your face with a couple of guys who were not up for his antics.
There is no doubt there were some genuinely funny moments in the show but then there was quite a lot of for most of the audience cringe worthy ones too. I felt the show ran out of ideas and would have probably been better as a half hour show rather than the full hour.
Still it went down well in Australia so maybe with a different crowd it would have gone down better here too.
