Lein: – Marjolein Robertson 4****

There can be no doubt the former Shetland one time Town Planner Marjolein Robertson is becoming a comedy presence over the last few years.
Lein is the third part of a trilogy, each year moving to a larger venue, and the previous two episodes garnering both critical and popular recognition.
Although the third part of the trilogy, it does still work as a standalone also. As with the previous legs, Ms Robertson relates Sottish small island myths and legends to draw parallels with her own life and progressions.
There is no doubt that these are very important and maybe therapeutic for her, yet it is never a therapy session, she is far to savvy for that. The chapters of the legends, the episodes in her life are told, warts and all, in such a manner, that one is gently led through the stories in such a way that the multitude of laughs she threads through the narrative, are integral to making this a very compelling piece.
One cannot fault the writing, the performance, or the simple staging of this show. There is plenty of charisma throughout, and the juxtaposition of light and shade of the piece intertwined with her undoubted comedic talent make this an engaging show and not just another hour of stand-up.
