Woody's Bush Cabaret – for Kids! - 4**** - One4Review

Woody’s Bush Cabaret weaves together a lovely little story about the bushland, including original songs and lively audience interaction. We’re waiting to hear Billy the kookaburra’s call to signal it’s time to start the cabaret, and until then we’re led through various animal songs, hopping kangaroos, a lively snake and games and call-and-response activities to take us through the show. There’s even a lovely children’s storybook that is a joy to watch the children gather around.
The show moves pleasingly through some big, singalong energy and then more gentle and sweet pieces. A memorable “Have you ever?” song brings bursts of laughter amongst children and grown-ups alike; it’s silly and absurd and just the right balance to start your morning at the Fringe. We see the various ukuleles on stage, and when Woody starts handing them out to the little critters, you can see how excited everyone is to join the cabaret (parents included!). Whether it’s performing in the band or the fun and, at points, speedy heel-and-toe stomp number, there’s a mix of everything in this fun-filled hour.
Woody has a gift for creating a welcoming space while reading the crowd instinctively. Even the ‘dangerous’ section ends with a parent on stage and the rest of us in stitches on stage. There’s nothing scary about this show, only joyful sock puppets and lively music full of Aussie flavour. If you’re looking for something to take the little ones to at the start of your day, this is a top pick!
