Goose (An Odd New One-Man Comedy Whodunit) 4**** - One4Review

Goose (An Odd New One-Man Comedy Whodunit) 4****

| On 10, Aug 2014

The last fifteen minutes of this superb one-man (plus musician) show make the first forty-five both essential, and entirely worth it. There are three layers of story going on (like Russian dolls), as well as Mr Drake’s asides about the front row and malfunctioning props, but nominally it’s a story about an apparent hate-crime against David Schwimmer and his quest to find out whodunit. There are at least six characters, and they’re all played seamlessly by Adam Drake, with lovely on-stage incidental music by Hatty Carman. I also really enjoyed the extremely effective change of scenes indicated by spinning round and different light colour.
Abstractly, this is all a bit silly and rather preposterous (though that’s not an insult if you like that sort of thing), but it’s really good fun, exquisitely thought out, and delivered with a knowingness which brings the audience in and along right to the end.
