Golden Prospects - One4Review

Skullduggery Theatre Company have become somewhat of a Fringe institution over the last few years and each year their shows get critical acclaim. They are staging three this year The Bicycle Men at Smirnoff Underbelly, I an Star Trek at Pleasance Dome and this one Golden Prospects at C Chambers Street. This play by Colin Campbell is a mixture between Victorian Melodrama and pantomime, where the audience are positively encouraged to cheer heroes, boo villains and generally call out advise.   he plot line is very silly, but totally in keeping with the style of show as we have villains conning ‘green’ migrants, twins split at birth, self mutilating parents, heart-throb film stars, seedy film producers, and larger than life heroes as the eight strong cast ably abetted by live pianist play their way through sixteen characters with verve. This is a well-presented lighthearted piece of nonsense… but great fun. It is certainly an antidote to some of the heavier, more serious fare that is on offer during the Fringe.   ****
