May Contain Nuts - One4Review

James, Giles, Paul and Davnet are the four comedy actors that make up Jambalaya, and what their show consists of is an hour of sketches, I believe I counted eighteen in all and that is quite a number for the time available. What it also means is that they are straight into the sketches and establish their idea very quickly indeed. As with all sketch shows some do work rather better than others, but if their packed house on the night I attended was anything to go by, nearly all were well received. The material covered a number of subjects including Mastermind, relationships, vacuum cleaners, an eastern European who translated show tunes into his own language (!) police slang and a vicar getting heckled, which was my personal favourite. With most other sketch shows being done by student companies it was nice to see a rather more mature slant on this medium, and I being even more mature found their sense of humour was more to my taste. This was Jambalayas first visit to the Fringe, but it hopefully won’t be their last. ***
