I Caught Crabs in Walberswick - One4Review

Joel Horwood is an award winning playwright and this play was commissioned last year and was premiered in May prior to its stay at Fringe 2008. This production centres on the three teenagers, Fitz, Aaron Foy, Wheeler, Harry Hemple and Dani, a spoiled wild child, played by Gemma Soul with the usual teenage angst and rampaging hormones that are rife in 16 year olds. The other characters are played by Andrew Barron and Rosie Thomson and I particularly liked the portrayal of Fitz’s father a pitiful hypochondriac. The set is wonderfully simple and versatile, and the direction is of a high quality. Although all the ingredients of what should be a great production are present, I feel that the storyline is anything but new and really doesn’t add much to similar stories of rebelling sexually curious kids and ineffective parents. This is a pretty reasonable production however, but I hoped for a little more. ***
