The Boy Friend - One4Review

I have always thought Sandy Wilson musical ‘The Boyfriend’ was a nice piece of family friendly nostalgic escapism with some catchy tunes. It was never the longest of show, but Hazlenut Productions have pared it down to an hour, I went to see the show with some trepidation this may have been a cut too far. The story of love for the perfect young ladies at a posh girls school is simply staged, nicely directed and well performed by a enthusiastic cast numbering fifteen, who sing, dance and play their way through this production. If I had any criticism of the show, I was not so sure about some of the costumes, yet others were excellent. Overall, an enjoyable performance from a company who should prosper. It is a nice easy way to start an afternoon at the Fringe, not groundbreaking, but rather enjoyable.   ***
