Zoe Lyons Miss Machismo - One4Review

Normally I am beaten to the ticket for Zoe Lyons during the Fringe as Geoff sees her as his discovery. This year I’m sure he would have loved her show but I got in first. Tee Hee!  Yehh! Wow what a show it was. To steal a phrase Zoe used once or twice it was a bit of a roller coaster ride, going up, up,up and down a little, up, up and up again until the final deadly drop, the end of the show! Zoe starts of by explaining the meaning of Machismo, ‘an exaggerated sense of masculinity stressing such attributes as Physical Courage, Virility, domination of women and aggressiveness or violence’. Then on with the show giving some examples of her personal Machismo, various other aspects of her life, things and people that upset her, some one liners, examples of fragrances and perfumes from celebrities that are just wrong! The list of topics is so wide and varied it would be impossible to cover half. This whole thing about females not being funny has raised its ugly head, as here is yet another comedian performing brilliantly and playing the men at their own game with mucho machismo. In the African jungle the lion is king, in the Fringe comedy jungle Zoe Lyons is definitely a Queen, she’ll pounce on you with her witty repartee and have you rolling about the floor in fits of hysterics. *****
