Showstopper! The Improvised Musical - One4Review

*****

5 Star

This show has been running in a late night slot over a number of Fringes now and is fast becoming a cult show with many people retuning night after night as the show is different every time.

Taking a variety of random suggestion from the audience in respect to styles, titles, settings and even acting styles the intrepid troupe of actors somehow manage to make a very creditable musical in just over an hour, in order to sell it to Cameron Macintosh!!

Okay occasionally the storyline becomes surreal, the plot contrived but what never falters is the quality of performance and singing voices that are on offer.

These players have a pool to select from, so it’s rather hard to know who is going to be on each night, but when I visited the show was Lust The Musical, set in a monastery, incorporating styles of Lloyd-Webber, Sondheim and ‘Thoroughly Modern Millie’ but of course it will change daily.

The cast included Pippa Evans Ruth Bratt and Adam Meggido along with others I couldn’t recognise from the back of the hall, the closest I could get.

Do go and go early. It’s one of the best pieces of late night lunacy you can find on the Fringe this year. In fact go more than once.
